Competitive Bidding

Well first we had the threat of competitive bidding, then the reality that July 1st was here and every attempt to delay or do away with competitive bidding had failed.  Everyone had to deal with the reality that competitive bidding had officially started in the first ten MSAs....then a few days later we hear that the Senate vote has been cast - and the delay of Competitive Bidding is official. Wonderful, right?  Well, then there was the veto by President Bush which put Competitive Bidding back in place.  Luckily congress voted to override the veto and there is now again at least an 18 month delay of competitive bidding.  read details here   Mabel

The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 was enacted on July 15, 2008.  This new law has delayed the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Program.  Items that had been included in the first round of the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program can be furnished by any enrolled DMEPOS supplier in accordance with existing Medicare rules.
